Best one I ever heard was:

My Pastor asked our congregation to give all they had this week for the church.

A resident told me that her ex-husband would be paying the rent. Not that strange--except he called to find out when the repairs would be completed to her apartment. Seems she told him there had been a fire in the apartment and she spent her rent money staying in a hotel!

One was that he had to bail a friend out of jail, because the friend had done the same for him earlier... One that was frequent with one resident at a previous site I worked at was, housing pays the majority of my rent and it's been paid, you guys don't need my portion.
